SmarTrip: Through the years
Over the years, Metro has had several versions of the SmarTrip card, which is now considered out-of-date technology. Now Metro is among a handful of transit agencies around the country trying to upgrade the way riders pay to ride buses and trains. The project would allow riders another way to pay. Rather than swiping their SmarTrip cards at fare gates they could simply wave a credit or debit card with a computer chip or smart phone in front of a reader that would deduct money from their account.
