The 8 tornadoes recorded in D.C.
National Weather Service records indicate that eight tornadoes have been reported in the District's history, the first occurring in 1814 on the same day British troops set fire to the city. The historical records through 2001 show tornadoes have been reported in each county in the Washington metro area.
