Annually 85% or more of our graduates attend four-year or two-year colleges. SHS students continue their outstanding performance on the AP examinations (498 were taken in the spring of 2012) as 83% of the exams taken earned scores of "3" or higher. The orchestra has toured and performed internationally numerous times with the last trip coming in 2009 to China. The last several years our Fine Arts Department produced very successful musicals: "Into the Woods", "Little Shop of Horrors", "The Sound of Music, "Footloose", and " Hairspray." The South Carolina High School League recognized some 60 seniors as athlete-scholars for having a 3.5 grade point ratio or higher. 2011-12 proved to be a banner year for SHS athletics as the department won the Spartanburg Herald Journal Athletic Excellence Award for having the top program in its readership area. Spartanburg High School has a rich and proud history. SHS is the first high school in the country to have been honored four times by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon High School.
