    Enrollment Policy

Students apply to JCIB; admission is competitive and based on several factors including standardized test scores, grades at previous school, teacher recommendations and an essay.

    Extra Item(s) of Interest

JCIB is a school within a school; JCIB has a population of approximately 350 students pursuing a rigorous academic program; our students have met or passed the ACT benchmarks as estb. by the state and have a 100% college attendance rate as well as a 100% graduation rate. Shades Valley High School, the school campus in which the IB program is housed, has a population of 1400+ students, as such it provides 6A opportunities for athletics for its students (including IB) but with the larger student population, its test scores are not as high. JCIB and SVHS are counted together for the AYP data. For the school year 2013 - 2014 the state of Alabama was granted a waiver for NCLB and AYP (the IB students' scores all qualify for passing AYP). The demographic numbers are different between the 2 programs as well, for example the ethnicity breakdown for SVHS is approximately 27% white, 3% Asian and 70% African-American.
