The information-technology giant, formally known as Computer Sciences Corp., faced a number of challenges, including a reduction in the scope of a major contract with the United Kingdom's National Health Service and a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation into accounting errors in one of its sectors. The company’s chairman, president and chief executive, Michael W. Laphen, announced in October that he would retire by late 2012. The company also acquired Maricom Systems and CenTauri Solutions.
