Howard University

The private historically black institution in 2011 continued to see a turnaround in its financial picture. Net assets increased by $134 million, to a total of $608 million. Howard began a multi-year, $32 million facilities renewal project to update and renovate seven campus facilities. The project is part of a multiphase plan that includes environmentally friendly “green” roofs, water conservation systems and improved access for the disabled.

The university produces more on-campus African-American Ph.D.s than any other university in the world.
