Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2011, the senior living giant announced in January that it had completed a purchase and sale agreement with two other firms that chief executive Mark Ordan called “a major step toward our announced goal of maximizing our real estate ownership.” The deal resulted in a new joint venture of which Sunrise owns 32 percent and a subsidiary of CNL Lifestyle Properties owns 68 percent.

Trivia

Part of the inspiration for the founding of Sunrise came from Dutch assisted care homes, called verzorgingstehuizen.
