Major employers

UPS

UPS, which has been battling declining exports from Asia, delivered nearly 4 billion packages in 2010. The company reported a 14 percent rise in profits in the third quarter of 2011, thanks to an increase in its freight operations in the United States. UPS is expanding its reach by opening stores at universities, hotels, convention centers and military bases. In September, the company said it was planning a $200 million expansion of its European air hub in Cologne, Germany.

Trivia

In the 1990s, when handhelds were introduced to log deliver information, the company estimated the devices eliminated the use of 59 million sheets of paper, equal to 5,187 trees per year.
