Major employers

2. Verizon Communications

Verizon announced plans this year to join with RedBox on a video service that the companies hope will rival Netflix. In August, the Justice Department approved a $3.6 billion deal between Verizon and four cable companies that includes a cooperative marketing arrangement among the firms. The deal has drawn criticism from advocacy groups, who say it could limit consumer choice and drive up prices.

Trivia

Verizon’s subscribers now total almost 96 million.
