Verizon announced plans this year to join with RedBox on a video service that the companies hope will rival Netflix. In August, the Justice Department approved a $3.6 billion deal between Verizon and four cable companies that includes a cooperative marketing arrangement among the firms. The deal has drawn criticism from advocacy groups, who say it could limit consumer choice and drive up prices.
